Learning about the Dragon race.

Appearance

Dragons are lizard like creatures that bare two wings, four limbs and four paws: two forepaws and two rear paws.
Dragons range in height from between 7 and 13 feet, though there are dwarf dragons who can be as short as six feet.
They have tails that vary in length and tip, from forked to very pointy to softened, rounded ends.
The closest to a living evolutionary ancestor the dragons have today are the Difforrus still alive on Navu.
Members of this race are completely covered in scales of varying colours that used to play a vital part in where they existed in society.
Gold: Royalty - Dragons with gold scales were likely to hold positions of leadership and authority within the dragon society
Silver: Security - Silver-scaled dragons were associated with roles related to security and protection.
Blue, Green, Black: Healers and Military Personnel - Dragons with blue, green, or black scales were often involved in healing or military roles.
Orange and Red: Scientists or Research Engineers - Dragons with orange or red scales were likely to work in scientific or engineering fields, particularly in research.
Yellow and Purple: Historians, Builders, and Archaeologists - Dragons with yellow or purple scales were associated with historical, construction, and archaeological roles.
This has since been scrapped and the scale colours are simple variation these days.
The only scale colour that holds significance in dragon society now is Off-White. Off-white dragons are said to be without honour and are considered so low and disreputable that no one with any honour of their own would associate with them. Having a dragon who is Off-White in the family can ruin a family reputation and affect even those not cast out.

Planet of Origin

Navu.
Navu is located in Sector 4 and orbits between two stars that throw off a unique pink colour.
the grass on the Navu is blue, rather than green.
Navu's capital city is a large dragon settlement known by off-worlders as the city of Aloarah,.. It is currently not open to pilots.

Historical Information

While the published timeline of Navu gives more details, here is a brief overview of recent dragon history:
Dragons are believed to have originated from a species of large lizards known as Difforrus, which still exist on their home planet, Navu. These creatures evolved into the majestic dragon race we know today.
the dragon race once owned a grand empire that stretched over sector 3 and 5 if not further and their imperial tendancies can still be seen in the way they hoard treasure, territory and pretty gems from time to time Not many of the dragons alive today will actually remember the empire.
Under the rule of Rominara the 16th queen, dragon kind began to explore various planets and solar systems in many different directions. It is through this method that they first came across early humans on Earth and proceeded to get into bloody brawls with them. Enterprising dragons of the time saw these stick waving primitives as easy to dominate and when they fought back, it was not best received.
Small clashes broke out all over and it is believed this is where humanities myths and legends about dragons come from. It is thanks to Queen Rominara that the dragons left, choosing to withdraw and leave early humans to their own devices, the blood shed not an honourable method to obtain their treasure.
historical evidence indicates that later, when the dragons and humans remet, they did so with so much more caussion and careful maneuvering that, acording to the written acount of Golfrats Red Scale: "the humans observed our magnificence with the awe it deserved and spent more time with their hands above their heads waving at us than sheep do in falling down dead before you eat them. For my crew's part, we had been warned of these odd little savages but to find them buzzing around in their silly little ships was quite a shock, so we did our part to tuck in claws and not bellow too much. Only a little."
Dragon human relations have only ever gone up hill from that point, humans making an effort to give dragons roles in society that would make them more willing to stay and in the modern world, the two races are so closely entwined that there would be no hope of separation, indeed any feeling to that affect died many years ago.
The only real speed bump in the friendship was when Ryuchi came along and the subsequent war with the Shalka kicked off, more information on which can be read about in other sections.
The reign of Dragon Queen Xurana Golden Scale came to a brutal close in 2491 and brought great sadness to Navu, for it was the Shalka who ritually murdered her and her kin.

Dietary requirements

As a rule, most dragons are very much meat eaters, with a particular preference for cows and sheep.
there are vegetarian dragons however this Dietary choice comes with a lot of health concerns and has to be closely medically monitored. A dragon's biology makes them very reliant on their evolutionary meat eating nature.

Status

This race is a member of the Galactic Senate and is therefore allied as part of that body.
This race is listed as highly virulent, a status given to races who are not in danger or under threat.

Singular: Dragon.

Pronounced: Drag, on.

Life expectancy

Dragons live for between 600 to 800 years old on average, although they can grow as old as 1100, this is rare.

Mating and reproductive systems

Dragons mate for life. This means, they do not flirt with, be sexual with, date, mess around with, or in any other way be more than friends with anyone they don't consider their lifemate. It also means that it is practically impossible to break a bond once it has formed. Consider this aspect of dragon roleplay very carefully before playing a dragon.
Dragon young are born from eggs. Dragon's lay eggs once every 2 months. Whether they are fertile or not depends if a male is with the female at the time of consimation. Very rarely, in the case of queens, dragons are able to produce without a male. A fertile dragon egg will hatch after 3 months.
Dragons are able to breed with humans and Ryuchi to produce Ryuchi in the formulas:
dragon+dragon=dragon
dragon+human=Ryuchi
dragon+ryuchi=Ryuchi.
In the case of a dragon male and a human female mating, the Ryuchi is born through the human way, but the fetus has to be removed from her early on by cesarian section due to the ryuchi's tough biological makeup causing gradual damage to the human mother's delicate biological makeup, in particular the internal reproductive organs.
The idea of mating with another race was taboo for many years in dragon society and while opinions have warmed, especially under the new queen, older dragons will still have a considerably low opinion of those who partake in it.

Dragon Shalka relations

Dragons and Ryuchi have never gotten along from the beginning. The concept of Dragons mating with other races was highly taboo, almost illegal and when they first came about, the Ryuchi were seen as unnatural, morally wrong.
This did not lend Fire Haven, later to be Goscro Krah, any reason to treat navu with any form of respect and Navu did likewise. the Free Fire scheme implemented in 2310 saw dragons leave Goscro Krah and that allowed the Ryuchi to flourish, an action meant to snub the race instead doing more to give it free territory than anything else.
Despite this, in 2350, Ryuchi leant their entire space force into defending Navu's orbit against enemy attack and this olive branch may have been the first step towards a slightly closer friendship had not other tensions risen.
History is unclear at this point in terms of motive, for in 2370, dragon writing on the subject states that "as a sign of good faith and in acknowledgement from the wise Xurana, Navu recognises Fire Haven as a home for a race finding its feet." Where as Ryuchi texts state: "The imperialist dragons continue to sink their claws into society,, making hollow gestures by stating they do not own land that they never owned."
The Ryuchi civil war is what really kicked things up a notch as this is when the Shalka emerge.
Souring in Ryuchi and dragon relationships can from this point almost always be traced back in some way or other to Shalka agents. For the longest time, Dragons did not even recognise Ryuchi and Shalka as separate peoples and indeed the word Shalka is a rough translation meaning "born without honour" and had been used to refer to Ryuchi.
Shalka is somewhat of a major slur as you might imagine and while in the modern world it now only applies to that specific people, the memory of that bitter poison still runs deep in both Ryuchi and Dragon culture.
Navu has, over the past 100 years, taken a lot more of a passive role both in political matters, as well as matters of territory and force, which has done wonders to soothe the fire of the Ryuchi temper for without Navu always looking over Goscro Krah's shoulder, it has allowed the younger and shorter lived race to, if not forget past animocity, at least let sleeping sheep lie.
Navu has aligned itself as a neutral party in many of the inter alliance squabbles and, while they might not admit it, this has earnt them some from the Ryuchi government and thus, their people.
The dragon race shall never see peace with the Shalka though, the killing of a Dragon Queen is just a step too far and it's a pill no one is willing to swallow. The total and unswerving Ryuchi support in this has done a lot to patch up a rocky alliance and these days, War General vulvgang, the leader of the War Counsel, has even been known, on rare occasion, to pay an honest, if grudging, compliment to Dragon Queen Morgana.
for their part the Shalka is not interested in peace with the dragons either, seeing them still as tyrannical imperialists just waiting to take over once again.

This move was firs tscene as vastly unpopular by many of the dragon people, however, it soon became clear that Xurana had done this in order to both consolidate her own power, removing holdouts from her mother's reign, and also because many on the counsel were not as wise as they seemed. In a series of challenges of wit, combat, strategy, hospitality and even performance, Xurana reformed the high counsel of dragons into an advisery board to the queen, the highest position a male dragon may ever hold.
