The term pirate has a literal meaning of a person who attacks and robs ships.
In that regard, there are many pirates in the 25th century and indeed these days the terms pirate and rogue have become almost the same thing.
Pirates are for the most part scattered individuals. Over the years there have been times where they appear to have an advantage over the allied ships, and other times where the pirates seem to do nothing more than lose ground to heavy military crushing. These days it is estimated there are over 650,000 individual pirate ships in space, some built from scrap and others stolen from honest, hard-working pilots.
Rumours suggest there may even be an entire market somewhere in deep space where pirates will call to do trade deals, though the SDL are quick to dismiss this as unproven speculation. Several times, small bases, more like huge, floating docking bays have been run across that seemed to be acting as a temporary stop off point but the destruction of these does not seem to cause pirates that much of a set back. It is because of this, along with a number of other factors, that most of the pirates in deep space are thought to work alone, or in very small groups of less than 10.
In this regard it is logical, for it is far easier to slip past sensors as one ship, rather than a group of 50 or more.
that all being said there are currently two recognised pirate organisations that the SDL lists as enemies of the Senate.
True voice:
True voice has been brewing for an estimated 10 to 15 years but only showed themselves and started taking credit for things in 2490, when they first exploded some mines as warning shots near Star Command and then later kidnapped the fiance of a military leader. The operation failed but since then, True Voice has been blamed for several attempts of sabotage.
they are estimated to have a number between 1,000 and 3,000.
They have been accused several times, and not refuted, using Vacus and droidic technology to enhance their offensive capabilities.
True Voice members avoid face to face combat and are rarely seen in local sectors.
They do not have a recognised governmental or leading structure and their organisation appears to be built on strength.
The main grounding of True Voice is set in a theory that the government is hiding a lot of information. The name, true voice, is used to call out the government, saying that they spread falsities, cover ups and half-truths to frighten the public.
True voice have publicly declared the Embahi are a myth and says the Mutariansi are just actors hidden behind holographicly morphing machines.
True voice is firmly against the Mutariansi alliance.
In 2494, the SDF put out a statement saying that the SDA had successfully captured and killed several True Voice members but this statement was never actually published to the pilots and has since many times been questioned for validity.
Cleansing fire:
This organisation, who prefer to be called a consortium of conscience, announced their presents on the Galactic stage by kidnapping several dozen pauagiwa and a high-ranking Fleet Admiral of the SDL.
They are said to number between 20 and 40 pirates who are set up somewhere to the west of sector 1. Several sdl patrols and expeditions have headed out that way to find out, but nothing has come of it.
They are violently against slavery of any kind and publicly call the SDL out at any opportunity for keeping slaves secretly. They firmly believe all the members of the Senate freely partake in Pauagiwa trading and that the entire SDF leadership is completely corrupt.
Currently, there is a kill on site order for all members of this organisation including the supposedly kidnapped SDL Fleet Admiral Ohlair Omarala.
For a brief time a clan was set up called Onyx Hand who came close to being declared pirates, but the organisation collapsed before it got to that stage.
Onyx hand above all seemed to want freedom and was tired of SDL dictatorship. for this reason some people believe that Cleansing fire, who have expressed many similar aims, contains many missing members of that clan.
Onyx Hand was lead by a dragon war lord, ryacus who is presumed dead.
