rp help: separation

What is separation?
Cosmic Rage is a roleplaying game and it can be very easy to be affected by the actions your character goes through.
Often times we become attached to characters in some way, it becomes easy to start thinking the way they do, or saying things they do in order to get into their head.
Maybe it starts as a joke. Maybe it's a way to get yourself out of the daily grind of work for a little while.
We understand.
Everyone has done it. Despite our best efforts it is all too easy to become attached to our characters, to think of them of a part of us.
We've put this file together to attempt to give you some tips on ways to avoid this or at least, ways to avoid becoming affected by things that happen to your character:
1. Choose a different race. If you find yourself attached to a character, make an alt and choose a different race. the more obscure, the better Are you a naturally shy person? Choose a Ryuichi for their loud personality and abrupt ways. Are you a dominating personality? try a Pauagiwa.
2. Change your friendships: It's all too easy to roleplay with the same people who you talk to on social media or in your friend groups and that's great. But it limits your variety and makes you act how your friends expect you to act.
3. don't ask. don't ask who the person is behind the keyboard and don't care who they are. They are a character, not someone you might know from twitter.
4. Avoid making your character have likes, habits, dislikes or fashion choices that are similar to your own. Are you a dressy kind of girl? Try making a character who wears jeans. Are you a guy who slouches around in jeans all day? try a shirt and tie look.
5. Avoid description similarities: Do you have blonde hair? Make your character have brown. do you have blue eyes? Give your character green.
This may seem simple and obvious, but by following these 5 easy steps you not only expand your own social circle and make others feel welcome by including them in groups they otherwise might not be in, but you also keep yourself from thinking of your character as you, which is perhaps the most important thing about separation.
Remember: you are not your character.
