rp help: Performing Arts
Overview
Throughout history, performance has been a mainstay of entertainment. Television, stage plays, and musicians traveled the lands keeping people entertained. Now, it's your turn! Step into the lime light and strut your stuff! Sing! Dance! Act! Play a tambura while performing a sexy strip tease! Who are we to judge. However, detailed below are a few things you should know in order to participate both as a performer and an audience member.Audience
When someone uses our performing commands, a tag will follow the emote they write which gives a general idea as to how well the performance was executed. For example:Panaxes Performance Committee Member Nico Lauiae steps onto the stage and adjusts his cloak. tossing his head back, he begins to sing, "When you're alone, silence is all around."
Panaxes Performance Committee Member Nico Lauiae's singing is skillfully done.
The emote is what he did, but the tag after indicates that he likely applied technique as well as he could. If he failed, his voice might crack or he might miss some notes. In the worst case, his singing might go disastrously wrong. Perhaps he was too quiet and people couldn't hear him in the back. Even a good performer might not always perform well, though a great performer will rarely fail.
Performers
From the performer's perspective, it's pretty simple. You write your emote to the best of your abilities, and a dice roll is performed behind the scenes to determine how relatively good your performance was. As such, if you are confident that you are very familiar with a performing art, feel free to emote as skillfully as you like. However, if it's your first time ever playing the instrument in game, you might want to be more realistic as to the level of your skill with that instrument or with your singing voice. What if your character has a background as a singer who performed all over the world or as a person who has been playing guitar since they were born?
Well, there is a donator item which will take care of that. Each instrument or performing art has a scale of familiarity from one to 15. You can pay 1000 roleplay points to increment that level by one, so the more you roleplay, the more roleplay points you have to put towards these arts.
PLEASE NOTE: more arts will be coming in the future, so spend wisely.
How to actually perform
To sing, act, or dance, simply type sing/act/dance and fill in the following prompt with your emote. The game will handle the rest.If you are playing an instrument, type play
In both instances, you can use all the same notations you would use in a standard emote to match to people and objects in your vicinity.
