general help: Communicating out of character

Introduction

Out-of-character communication is an important aspect of gameplay, and here in Cosmic Rage, we offer a variety of ways to communicate out of character. This guide covers the different methods available, so you can find your preferred way to chat with friends or make new ones as you converse with other players.
Before we begin, the standard syntax for transmitting in an out-of-character channel is the channel name followed by your message. Most channels have abbreviations, which are provided next to each channel name below. For example, to transmit on the Out-of-Character channel, you would type ooc followed by your message.
To toggle a channel on, type the channel name followed by "on", for example, oocon. To turn it off, type the channel name followed by "off", such as oocoff. If you prefer to remain anonymous when asking a question, type the channel name followed by "anon" and your message. For example, newbie anon Hello, how do I send cash to someone?

List of Out-of-Character Channels

Cosmic Rage offers various out-of-character channels, each with its own function or topic.
Chargen
This is the first channel available to you during character creation. You can ask questions related to character creation, inquire about important details, or seek help if you're stuck. To speak on this channel, type chargen followed by your message. For example: Chargen Hello, can someone help me?
Mentor
Available to new players up to rank 50, this channel is where you can ask questions related to the game. If you're unsure how to do something or need guidance, type mentor followed by your message, and our friendly newbie helpers will assist you as soon as possible. Note that this channel is only available to players up to rank 70 and the staff, so if your question goes unanswered, please be patient.
Newbie (NEW)
Starting at rank 50, players gain access to the Newbie channel, the main place for questions and answers. Anyone can ask a question here and receive a response from staff or fellow players. It's a great resource for getting quick assistance.
Out-of-Character (OOC)
If you're looking for lively conversation with other players, the OOC channel is perfect for casual chat. However, please avoid triggering soundpacks here to maintain a quiet environment. If you have a game-related question, use the Mentor or Newbie channels, as they are more suited for that. Always be respectful, kind, and avoid bringing up political or inappropriate topics.
Roleplaying (RP)
This channel is for roleplay-related questions. If you're unsure about aspects of your character, such as whether your Ryuchi has a muzzle or a face, or what accent to give your Earth-born human, send your query here, and someone will help you.
Socials (SOC)
Cosmic Rage offers a wide array of Out-of-Character socials. You can check them out by typing @oocsocials. All of them are available for use on the Socials channel, where you can freely entertain others and have fun.
Music FM (MF)
If you've discovered a catchy song and want to share it with others, drop the title, artist, and a link if possible. The Music FM channel is where you can discuss music, songs, and everything audio-related.
Soundpacks (SP)
Cosmic Rage offers a plenty of soundpacks to try out. If you're having trouble with one or want to create your own, this is the channel to ask for help. Feel free to discuss anything related to soundpacks here, especially if you've gagged the wrong line!
Brag
If you've been debris salvaging for weeks, reached first place on the RP board, or amassed a lot of cash and want to show off, the Brag channel is for you. You can see what you can brag about by typing brag list, and by typing brag followed by one of the options from the list, you can share your achievements. For example, to brag about your rank leaderboard position, type brag .rank, and it will display your place on the rank leaderboard.
Out-of-Character Private Networks (PNs)
If you'd like a quiet space to chat with a few friends about the latest football match or a new invention, you can create a private network, add your friends, and start your conversation. For more information, see help private networks.

Out-of-Character Private Communication

To communicate privately with someone, you first need to add them to your friends list. Type friends send to send a friend request. If they've already sent you one, simply type friends respond to accept.
If you'd prefer to have friend requests automatically accepted or denied, you can configure this by typing options ooc link.
Once you're friends, you can send messages by typing otr . For example, otr Bob hello!.
Note: Many hosts leave their friends lists open, meaning you can message them freely. However, using this to speed up bug reports, suggestions, or support tickets is not allowed. Misuse of this feature may result in messaging restrictions.
To reply to the last out-of-character private message you received, type oreply. To lock replies to the last person who messaged you, use olock. Type olock again to unlock it.
If you'd like to adjust what notifications you see, such as when a friend logs in, out, or goes AFK, type friends config. This also includes an option to apply your preferences across all friends for easier setup.
If you no longer wish to be friends with someone, type friends remove. If someone is bothering you with spam or unwanted messages, you can block them by typing ignore to keep things peaceful.
Happy chatting!
