ground combat, picking your first fight
Sometimes, the only way you can understand a system is by seeing it in action.
Of course, you don't want to throw yourself in so far that what ever you are fighting kicks you into the 31st century and so this file will talk you through finding something easy to pick a fight with that you don't have to worry about hurting you in return.
There are two places you could find something to fight.
First, on the Galactic Academy, if you head into the arena you can begin a simulation by typing begin. This will put you in a room with a simulated enemy who will not actually hurt you in any way, he'll just insult you.
If you want to make it a little more challenging, head to a beach on a planet. Most beaches will have crabs on them that you can type kill crab to engage in combat.
Okay, so here we are,about to pick a fight with a crab. what is going to happen?
Crabs are very slow and really not that strong and chances are he's going to just try and bite you to death. If you wanted to, you could sit back and just let your character kick it to death.
this would be what is known as using your passive abilities. your character will kick and punch, all on his lonesome with no input from you what so ever.
This will allow you to just observe each round as it takes place and if things get too scary, you can type flee to run away, crabs won't follow you!
Chances are though, if you attack the crab at the start of this file, you've killed it by now! don't forget to pick up the shell, littering is bad!
that is the easiest form of combat and crabs are a perfect practice dummy for if you want to try out some of your active abilities, too. take a read of your relevant race help file and try out some of the commands.
