Damage types
Damage ... hurts! Ouch! In itself a very simple fact. Less simple is the fact that Cosmic Rage has several different creatures and weapons, each dealing assorted types of damage. Below is a fairly comprehensive list along with the types of attacks that might inflict that sort of damage. For the most part, the messages you see when in combat should allow you to approximate the type of combat you are taking.
- laser: One of the more common weapon types, (perhaps unsurprising given the futuristic setting), most enemy mobs will dabble in a bit of laser play with droids featuring them most prominently.
- projectile: When guns launch shells, bullets, or other solid objects at you, you're likely taking projectile damage. Less common in enemies, it is nevertheless a damage type you might want to defend yourself against.
- explosive: Grenades, missiles, and rockets all fall into the category of explosive damage. Often times, this type of damage hits multiple parts at once so can be quite dangerous. Droids tend to favor this damage type along with some player weapons such as the rocket launcher.
- Blades: This damage type covers a wide margin--from rusty metal blades wielded by insane aliens to the fancy curved numbers Vacus workers love so much to the laser blades players can buy, if it slashes, it deals blades damage. For the purposes of being able to deflect damage with a blade, most unarmed clawing attacks count as blades damage since one edged weapon can deflect the edge of another.
- piercing: Weapons that deal this damage type are pretty thin on the ground in CR's setting, but the damage type is plentiful in the unarmed arena. Bites, tail stabs, and clawing attacks that describe stabbing into someone versus slashing at someone count as piercing damage.
- blunt: Mostly the per view of unarmed combat, blunt damage in compasses punches, kicks, charging head-first at someone, or even tentacle and tail slams.
- crushing: Reserved for damage done by the next level of blunt damage, you can expect this damage type if you see messages where a creature is smashing, crushing, or squeezing its opponent.
- poison: A rare but dangerous damage type, it often comes from enemy sings or snake bites. When you take this type of damage, you might gain the poisoned affliction and need to eat a plant to cure yourself.
- sonic: The most rare yet no less dangerous sonic damage is caused by intense loud noises or directed vibrations so powerful that they can rattle up your insides. It is the most difficult damage to defend against and is best avoided or rapidly healed from. Ryuchi and kaults are the most likely source of this damage.
