gadgets help: radios

The ability to communicate to others who are not in the same room with you in an in character way is not automatic. You will need a radio or, after Rank 15, an advanced communicator in order to access in character channels. Those of the cy-larkan race are an exception, as they have built-in radios. To purchase a radio or advanced communicator, find a communications store.

Following are commands useable with radios and advanced communicators. Remember that you can always find a list of commands for an object by typing x , for example, x radio.

adjust radio: Brings up a menu for toggling channels, working with your private network and so on.
turn radio: Toggles whether the radio is on or off.
toggle on radio: Allows you to toggle any of the channels on or off on your radio.
record-message : Allows you to set a custom message for emergency transmissions.
This will take on the following form:
"Emergency! This is . I am being held captive at on . .
link radio: Allows you to enter the name of someone you want to form a private link with. The other person will need to accept the link to make it active.
links radio: Allows you to view your private links and where each person is located. By default, this works only for online players, though this can be changed in options.
accept radio: If you have waiting link requests, this will bring up a menu to accept or reject them. You can toggle if link requests are automatically accepted in your options settings.
unlink radio: Allows you to remove a private link.
response : Allows you to set an automated response for when you are AFk. You can use all the same tips and tricks for transmitting IC, see below.
sos-h : This shows a history of SOS transmissions.
tr : Transmit privately to someone in your private links.
otr : As above, except otr is used to transmit in an out of character way.
reply or oreply : Sends a message to the last person who transmitted to you privately. Reply is used for in character messages while oreply is used for out of character.
lock or unlock radio: Turns on or off a reply locking feature. If on, reply or oreply will continue to send to the same person, even if you receive a transmission from someone else. This is useful for long conversations.
private : Toggle your privacy settings, for whether your location should be displayed in other people's links.
Emergency : This command, when typed, will send out an emergency signal to all other pilots with active radios, informing them of your precise location. Only use this in a true emergency.
If used inappropriately, for the first time there will be an in-character heavy fine. For the second, jail time (the time will be determined by the court, with a possibility to seek representation.)

To transmit over public in character channels, simply type the channel name followed by your message. For example, typing
chat Hi everyone
will send the message "Hi everyone" over the chat channel.
You also can transmit different socials or voice emotes over public in character channels. To do this, type the channel name, then the social surrounded by asterisks. An example might be:
chat *laughs*
Additionally, a social and a message both can be used, so if David will type something like: chat *transmits while laughing* Hello., it will come as: Chat David (transmits while laughing, "Hello.".

Radios and advanced communicators have a limited range. This range is controled by players and what industrial plants they have set up with the capabilities to broadcast at what distance.
