Clans, or closely linked allies in needs and sharing, was an idea originally thought of by the dragon race in 2440.
The SDF, however, were firmly, and still are firmly, against the idea of clans for obvious reasons.
In 2490, however, it was announced that after 3 weeks of hard work and preparation, clans were finally going to be allowed by the military.
What are clans?
Clans are a group of players who have gathered together into an organisation.
What do clans get that normal players don't?
Factory advantages:
1. a blueprint import export center for people to import, and export, there blueprints, allowing for sharing options, see clhelp blueprint sharing
2. Clan starship stores, to allow for the production of custom built starships on a larger scale, see clhelp starship stores
3. Jumpgates, see clhelp jumpgates and clhelp unmapped space

Disadvantages to factories:
1. higher taxes.

2. potential for massive pvp, with clan wars being allowed, see below.

How do I create a clan?
Most clan related stuff is done on Diana, in the town hall.
Once in the town hall type clan create and follow the steps.
It requires two players and 100 trillion credits to start a clan.
Once a clan is created, you can mail everyone in the clan by typing clan in the to whom field when making an email.

How do I join a clan?
Joining a clan is even easier. go to the room on diana and type clan join.

other commands that can be performed in the clan room:
clan info: show the information on a clan
clan list: see available clans
clan join: join a clan
clan create: create a clan
clan disband: disband a clan.
IMPORTANT: Once the clan is disbanded, all cash stored in the factory accounts of the clan's factories will be split among its members, as shown in the example below. If a clan has two factories and ten members, with each factory containing 500 trillion in its balance, the total amount is one quadrillion. When the clan is disbanded, each member will receive 100 trillion, as one quadrillion divided by ten equals 100 trillion.
Once in a clan, you are able to access the clan menu on your info computer.
You can also talk to other members of your clan by typing clanchat
Factories and starships owned by members of a clan show up as such when scanning.
Hosts may not be in clans.

Notes on the clan chat channel:
Clanchat is a fully in character[IC] channel that is monitored by the hosts like any other public channel.
Hosts will not act upon, react to, or respond to, any information they learn, infer or see while monitoring these channels.
A clan may be force disbanded for any of the following, very serious, offenses:
1. If the clan chat is used for OOC chatter.
2. If the clan appears to be an elitist clique.
3. If the clan is used to bully or harass.
Prior warning will be given to this occuring.

Clans may also be automatically disbanded if they only have one owner.
You can type clc stats to get a rundown of every clan and their standing in the rankings.
